Drinking water inspections

Drinking water must be provided to the entire population at a constant quality. Waterworks go to great efforts to supply water in the legally required quality. However, unwanted changes can occur due to installation defects, for example, in the pipelines that route the drinking water to the consumers.

These changes also promote the propagation of pathogens. They usually consist of bacteria (e.g. Legionella, microbacteria, and pseudomonads) and single-cell organisms (e.g. amoeba and ciliates).

Problems can also occur in air conditioning systems that use water for moisture due to deposits and sediments and germs or Legionella, which can be transmitted through the air current to humans and thus, pose health risks.

We are your competent partner for controlling drinking water installations and air conditioning systems, e.g. in hospitals, hotels, and swimming pools, and suggest recommendations for action.

Why is Legionella dangerous?

  • They can result in serious, atypical pneumonia often with a fatal outcome and cause Pontiac fever with flu-like symptoms.
  • They frequently trigger infections caused, e.g. by incorrect operation of drinking water installations in buildings. A legionella check provides clarity.
  • Legionallea occur, for example, in hospitals, hotels, and swimming pools, that is, in areas with many people.
  • They propagate vigorously in heated, standing water in the temperature range between 30°C and 45°C.

The most effective measure against Legionella is to permanently or, at least, temporarily increase the hot water temperature to 55°C.

What sets us apart?

An experienced team made up of chemists, engineers and technicians analyses and evaluates water samples in our very own Institute for Chemistry and Environmental Protection.

In cooperation with the TÜV NORD academy, we offer special examination methods, e.g. in-house training courses on drinking water hygiene.

Which services do we offer?

  • We inspect your drinking water using a legionella check in accordance with worksheet W 551 of the German association for gas and water, and test it for additional germs.
  • We inspect air conditioning systems for possible contamination.
  • We inspect complete piping systems and analyse the water in swimming pools and offer solutions.
  • If the suspicion of contamination is substantiated, we develop propose individual recommendations for action and coordinate their implementation.
