Egger receives ISO 50001 certification from TÜV NORD
Essen: Egger, a global full-range supplier of solid wood and wood-based materials, has had the energy management system for its three German factories in Brilon, Wismar and Bevern certified by TÜV NORD based on the new international standard ISO 50001. ISO 50001 will supersede European standard DIN EN 16001 in April of this year. A one-year transitional period applies, and TÜV NORD is one of the first certification companies to be granted accreditation for the new standard.
“Egger reduces greenhouse gas emissions through recycling and thermal utilisation of wood resides. Certification of the energy management system by TÜV NORD also means that the company can reduce its own energy consumption and make efficient use of resources”, explains Wolfgang Wielpütz, Managing Director of TÜV NORD CERT.
“We are very pleased that we have already been certified according to the new international standard. The energy management that we have established means that our business is sustainable and we also help to protect the environment”, says Rüdiger Börnke, Production Manager for Egger in Brilon.
ISO 50001 will replace European standard DIN EN 16001 in April and in future will stand for transparent company management, risk reduction and sustainable energy management all over the world. As an internationally-active enterprise with a high energy requirement, Egger is improving its own sustainability concept based on the new standard.
