Food Safety System Certification (FSSC) 22000
Food safety across borders
The Foundation for Food Safety Certification has established an internationally-recognised certification system for the food industry. With certification according to FSSC 22000, food manufacturers can contribute to safety within the supply chain and to cross-border harmonisation of the certification systems.
Wide acceptance
FSSC 22000 is based on the ISO 22000 and PAS 220 standards, is supported by the Confederation of the Food and Drink Industries (CIAA) of the European Union and, in contrast to ISO 22000, is recognised by the Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI). Renowned large-scale companies in the food sector were the driving force behind the new standard and it is expected that still further multinational food manufacturers and their suppliers will come to support the certification.
A message to trading partners
Successful certification means that companies can provide objective proof to their trading partners that they have implemented an independently-assessed management system for food safety; in fact, this business-to-business certification is not intended to communicate with consumers. The certification is directed towards companies of all sizes which process animal or plant products or other food ingredients or additives. The prerequisites for certification are the introduction of a quality management system for food safety and observance of Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) along with Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP).
