The type of project along with its scope or capacity determine whether or not it falls under the Environmental Impact Assessment Act (UVP Act). It also determines from which size or capacity a general or site-related preliminary inspection is first required or whether an installation is generally subject to an environmental impact assessment.
The contents of an environmental impact evaluation (UVU) include:
- The description of the project with its environment-relevant immissions, residues and interventions to be expected, construction phase, normal operation and interruptions, projected traffic volume
- Overview of the most important alternative solutions assessed by the project developer and specifications of the key selection reasons concerning the environmental impacts
- Assessment of the framework conditions: Higher-level plans, official specifications, examination room, results of the scoping appointment
- The description of the actual situation for all objects of protection (initial level of pollution, sensitivities, and impacts)
- The description of the effects for all objects of protection during the construction phase, during normal operation, in case of interruptions of operation under the agreed terms as well as interactions between the objects of protection
- List of measures intended to help avoid or mitigate detrimental effects
The study is also prepared in a form that laymen can understand. The results of environmental impact study (UVU) are presented in written form in an environmental impact evaluation (UVS) and submitted along with the application documentation of the authorities in charge
