Testing for environmental compatibility

For specific projects, it must be ensured that the impacts on the environment are identified, described and assessed comprehensively and in good time. The type of project along with its scope or capacity determine whether or not it falls under the Environmental Impact Assessment Act (UVP Act).

The legal text also determines from which size or capacity a general or site-related preliminary inspection of the individual case is first required or whether an installation is generally subject to an environmental impact assessment. We provide you with support, which is based on our longstanding experience and our extensive knowledge of installations and facilities, in environmental impact testing – from the preliminary inspection to the complex environmental impact evaluation.

What does an environmental impact study (UVU) entail?

  • The project and the environment-relevant immission, residues, and interventions to be expected (effective factors), the construction phase, normal operation, interruptions of operation under the agreed terms and the traffic to be expected are described.
  • Overview of the most important possible solutions (project alternatives), otherwise evaluated by the project developers and a description of the key selection reasons is provided concerning the environmental impacts
  • The framework conditions are illustrated: higher-level plans, official specifications, examination room, results of the scoping appointment.
  • The actual situation for all objects of protection (initial level of pollution, sensitivities, and impacts) is described.
  • The effects for all objects of protection during the construction phase, during normal operation, in case of failures or faults
  • during normal operation are evaluated.
  • The interactions between the objects of protection are taken into consideration.
  • Measures intended to help avoid, mitigate, and compensate, if possible, significant detrimental effects
  • are described.
  • Difficulties arising during the preparation of specifications, i.e. lack of knowledge, inadequacies in testing methods and technical gaps are portrayed.
  • The study is also prepared in a form that laymen can understand.

The results of environmental impact study are presented in written form in an environmental impact evaluation (UVS) and submitted along with the application documentation of the authorities in charge for the environmental impact assessment (UVP).
