Flood control

Scientific studies show that there will be more rain in the future and, as a result, an increase in flooding. Drawing on the experience of the Elbe floods in 2002, the German federal government adopted a 5-point program for flood control.

The public administration is responsible for identifying new flood areas and areas susceptible to floods and undertaking measures to hold back floods and technical flood control.

Prevention and protection, however, are also the responsibility of the private operator and/or owner of technical systems and buildings. Operators of systems subject to licensing are even required to take preventative measures.

In newly identified flood zones, a list of measures made up of a risk analysis and coordinated preventative measures can be used to eliminate or re-evaluate the threat of flooding. To this end, we offer a flood control certificate.

What services do we offer?

We examine the environment of your system or your building and check whether measures are necessary and look at their impact as part of a risk analysis.

Our certificate is issued when:

  • flooding is not possible.
  • existing measures are adequate.
  • recommended measures have been successfully implemented.

The risks are considerably reduced through the implementation of measures for flood prevention and damage reduction:

  • Buildings that with water protection or are flooded in a controlled manner with fresh water can be used again more quickly after the water has receded.
  • Drinking water systems that are equipped for flooding are more effectively protected against germs.
  • Electrical systems equipped for flooding are not adversely affected by flooding.
  • Tank facilities equipped for flooding and secured to keep them from floating are no longer pose a danger for water.
  • Insurance companies are more likely to conclude insurance policies even when buildings and systems are located in areas susceptible to flooding.

Help in the event of damage

Should there be damage, we help you by participating in crisis management groups and advising you in how to strategically decommission systems.

We can also systematically inspect your systems for damage, quickly and without any red tape, thus making it easy to get everything up and running again quickly.

What standards and legal regulations form the basis of our work?

Since 2005, a new law for preventative flood control has been in effect "Law to improve preventative flood control".
