Eco-power
It is time to create new energy.
According to market polls, a growing number of consumers are prepared to cover their individual power needs with power from renewable energy sources. And consumers won't really have to dig any deeper into their pockets. "Eco-power" has come closer and closer in recent years to matching the price of conventional power.
On the basis of the energy management legislation, consumers can determine for themselves whether they want to use conventionally produced power from coal, oil, gas or nuclear energy or power from renewable energy sources such as wind, solar or hydropower. In this way, the consumer can contribute to conserving energy supplies and improving the environment and climate protection.
"Eco power" is understood to mean the power that is produced from the following renewable energy sources:
- Biogas
- Biomass
- Landfill gas
- Mine gas
- Geothermal energy
- Hydropower (reservoir power plants only with natural inflow or in combination with renewable energies)
- Wind energy
- Solar energy
To ensure that consumers are protected against misuse and to lend greater credibility to such power options, the TÜVs have developed a certification process that power suppliers and brokers can voluntarily participate in.
Promotion of the type of power production by means of a certificate
In addition to protecting the consumer and increasing the credibility of the power supplier, an important objective of the TÜV certificate is to promote the further expansion of this type of power production. It obligates power suppliers to include this aspect in their business policy and to regularly inform customers about promotional measures.
The basis for this is the "VdTÜV basic guideline for eco-power products", which includes the requirements that a supplier of power from renewable energy sources must meet. Compliance with these requirements is regularly checked by a certification audit and annual monitoring audits.
One part of the audit is the checking of:
- the business policy with regard to the idea of promoting renewable energy,
- processes for procuring and dispensing the power (balances),
- the advertisements for truthfulness.
