Under pressure

Guide for air pressure and valves

Under pressure

The tyres are the fast legs of your motorcycle. When you speed along the autobahn at 240 km/h, the right tyre pressure and the use of the right valves is critical.

But what should you look out for?

Check the pressure

Regularly check the air pressure of your tyres. If the pressure is too high, this will compromise comfort and the tyres will have a poorer grip on the road. If the pressure is too low, this will compromise road hold and, if you have a passenger and luggage, the tyres may run hot and split.

Short, long or curved: What is the best solution?

Short, long or curved?

There are many forms of valves. If you have a fast motorcycle, choose with care

In the case of valves with long valve inserts, the surface of the moving stamp is almost twice as big as in the case of short ones. At high speeds, their centrifugal force can become so great that air escapes.

Our expertise:

  • Use short valve inserts so that the insert does not open as a result of centrifugal forces.
  • Ensure you use tightly-fitting valve caps with flawless rubber seals. Steel caps are better than plastic caps as the plastic caps often tear along their length if they are excessively tightened. If you ride without caps, dirt may impact the valves. The valve may lose air-tightness and the tyres may gradually deflate.
  • Never use car valves with tubeless tyres.

Curved metal valves never have centrifugal force problems; nevertheless, you should regularly check the tyre pressure.
