Nearly everyone has one: a driving licence. But the prerequisite for a licence is the test. Your nerves are probably suddenly jangling. But there is no need. With some swotting up, the necessary driving lessons and some tips from us, you are certain to succeed.
Your driving instructor knows you better than your friends do
Make sure you let me know which day your test is, so that I know to stay at home." Haha. You will hear silly comments like this thousands of times prior to your test. But one day, when you have passed with flying colours, you will have the last laugh. Until then: stay relaxed. People who pay attention properly at driving school and do their homework need not worry. Just listen to what your instructor says. He knows you and can support you.
The top tips for your test
Experience is the key. Take advantage of our many years of experience to make the day of your test your day. A few nerves is absolutely normal and the way it should be. Otherwise, you might take the whole thing too lightly.
- Get to the test calmly and without being in a rush.
- Don't be tempted to reach for anything to pep you up or settle you down. Medication influences your reactions and your vision, so it is off limits.
- Wear comfortable clothing and shoes.
- Don't put yourself under pressure to succeed. This will only bring on unnecessary stress.
- It is often very helpful not to reveal the date of your test to all your friends or family. This just increases the pressure you feel from others.
- Do not allow anyone to pressurize you into taking your test too quickly. Just place your trust in what your instructor says. They know exactly what you need and whether you are ready.
- So, think positively. You can finally show what you have learned.
- Don't be frightened of your TÜV examiner. They want you to pass as well. And they will not try and knock you off course or set you any traps.

- If you don't immediately understand what your examiner says, just ask them. They will look to help you.
- Don't try and evaluate your own performance during the driving test. Just keep thinking ahead.
- You are allowed to repeat many of the driving manoeuvres at least once. So, stay relaxed and concentrate if something does not go entirely smoothly.
- You can make up for minor errors and hesitations by doing other things well.
