Theoretical education
Everything is easy in theory
Anyone who wants to learn how to drive needs background knowledge: What you have to do to gain this background knowledge depends completely on how much knowledge you already have. Safe, responsible and environmentally aware: This is how legislators view responsible drivers. If you want to drive a car, you first have to put your theoretical knowledge to the test.
Safe, responsible and environmentally aware: This is how legislators view responsible drivers. If you want to drive a car, you first have to put your theoretical knowledge to the test. The theoretical training is divided into 90-minute units. Basic knowledge required for all classes of vehicle forms the initial content of the class. The subsequent class-specific topics build on this basic knowledge. It's logical: If you want to drive a car, you need to know different things than a motorcycle driver.
Overview of basic requirements
The minimum number of hours you have to complete before you can be tested depends on the license class you already have. If you are getting your driver's license for the first time, you must complete 12 90-minute units. If you are extending an existing driver's license you need at least 6 90-minute units of basic instruction. The minimum requirements that apply to you can be found in the table below.
